From the beginning, Alta Berri's work has explored many socio-economic themes, notably gentrification and cultural dichotomy, through a reportage approach. However, for the past several years, Berri's work has shifted to the broader world of sci-fi.

Berri was born in New York. She received her MA from The New School and her BS from New York University. She currently lives and works in New York.
